SEO or SEM

One common question we get asked is should I do SEO?

One common question we get asked is should I do SEO – Search Engine Optimization or should I just do AdWords which is you know pay-per-click or a SEM: Search Engine Marketing. The answer to that is obviously again, you know, depends on your business. But I recommend doing both. If you’re in the early stage of a business or in the early stage of promoting a product and you need to just, you know, get off the ground running. You’re gonna do, you know, paid search. SEM. Paid search. That’s gonna get you on that first page, on the top right away.

So, you know, an ideal strategy would be to you know set up a budget for the SEM and then gradually work on the SEO and eventually what will happen is you’ll be on page one for both which is the situation now for us, for a PC 911 computer repair.

When we first started, we were not even on.. you know, nowhere. I remember going back 20 pages and could not find my site listed. And that’s an example of, you know, no SEO which I spoke about recently that you at least have to be found. I couldn’t get… I wasn’t found for my name if I put PC 911 computer repair I wasn’t found. So, I wanted to be in index you know at all. So, that’s the bare minimum. You got to be there like that.

So, gradually started working on that with content. The main reason we got up front is content, content, content, video, video, video, video, audio – all that stuff. Not the greatest stuff but, you know, we took the approach of quantity versus quality. I’m not suggesting that that’s the best approach. It depends. But that’s the approach that we took was just, you know, let’s put up 200 posts and you know 100 of them might be good and that’ll move us up. And yeah it did move us up.

So, for you know computer repair Miami War on page. Well, we have about 10 excellent keywords phrases that we’re on page 1. Computer repair, iPhone repair, Miami, all those. I mean we’re local. So, all those are… you know, we’re on page 1 with a local search, you know. Miami term in there. So, we started moving that up at the same time doing AdWords paid search and nowadays we’re still doing both. But if your budget didn’t allow, you could, you know, cut back a little bit on the paid.

Right now, if we did a search for computer repair Miami and my ads were running. You would see sometimes I’ve come out four times actually four, one, two, three times on page 1. I said before computer for Miami is an example. Our ad would come up up top. If you were local to in our area. You’ll probably see us in the map and then you would see us generally for that term or position five, six, seven, something like that. So, that’s very powerful that someone does a search and finds you three times on one page. I mean that’s pretty good. You would definitely want to strive for that, you know. And again, we started nowhere to be found and we moved it up. So, that’s one of the strategies there when you say, you know, do I do one or the other.

If you want to wait six months, you know, to start getting on page one. You got that patience. You’ve got no expenses. That’s another scenario. If you really don’t have no overhead and it’s kind of something that you’re working on the side and you know and you’re just kind of trying to build this up and you do have zero budget then you just work on getting to page one. You don’t have, you know, a thousand dollars a month to put into ads. You would do that. But if you do have that budget moving yourself up front in the beginning, getting some traffic, getting customers and just starting to, you know, make the wheels spin is what I would really recommend.

But you know don’t rely on that. Because that, you know, that’s your constant spend that you could trim down later on if need be or you double down and you really make an impact on that page one by being in both the organic, you know, search and the paid search.
