Discussing Website SEO

Hey guys, let’s talk about a website’s SEO and all that good stuff. So you’ve got a website and one of the things you want to make sure is that it gets found. The site needs to look good and have ample links. The content should have the right info. All that is a great first step and necessary. The next step is if it doesn’t get found in – well not be there and that’s where SEO comes in. So as far as being found there’s a lot of different variables to that.

Everybody’s geared towards Google than being the guerrilla than a hundred pound gorilla in the search. You do have the other search engines but pretty much if you’re gonna you know optimize you’re gonna optimize for Google. Now they have a huge algorithm. Their algorithm they say has over 200 probably major factors that contribute to it. Nobody knows them and everybody you know always trying to figure them out but to keep it simple you know there’s just you know a handful of things that you want to make sure and in this case, here we’re gonna keep it down to four.

The Fantastic Four of SEO

This is what we’re calling the fantastic four of SEO. First of all, I want to talk about is just having a  good website. It should look good, be appealing and easy to navigate. It would also need to have good menu structure. Basically, though the website, in general, you can go into you know into different audios about each one in more detail. But just so you know summarize kind of the top floor the website itself you know working properly proper links those kinds of things.

Then from there which is kind of you know separated is the website. You know performance is optimization speed and speed is every day becoming more and more of a factor on your website. So and that’s something that’s pretty you know specific as far as you know separating that from just loading up a site. Depending on who’s working on your site and their area of expertise is going to determine if that same person that set up your site is also the same person that’s gonna optimize it for speed.

Generally speaking, you know there to kind of like different areas because the visual aspect of your website is more of a design. You know web designer type person more of a creative person or mindset and then the speed side is more of a technical signing. I mean generally you can have somebody that’s good at both but you know many times they’re kind of separate and big companies that have you know several people doing that so I don’t. Basically, the point here why it’s separated is because I want you to know think of them as two separate things.

Balancing Design and Speed

You have the beautiful site but now the performance is critical. Also when you set up a site and you’re thinking of this performance one of the factors to look at is you know every feature every plugin that might make it look more appealing could also be contributing to the speed. So you know you want to have all these pictures on this homepage to make it look attractive and you know spinning images and all these kind of things. But that may affect or probably will affect your performance. It’s a balance of those two. Now not everybody’s gonna set up a site and say you know I’m gonna try to I need to optimize.

You know for SEO depending on your scenario you know you that may be more or less important. But these are the fantastic four of SEO. So yes site speed is huge. There’s you know several tools out there to test that so that’s number two.

Number three is gonna be (these are not in order of importance) content and that’s the information. Not content as far as wow it looks beautiful. But it’s when people get there. Does your site provide the information that’s an answer? The question for a product you know if somebody’s looking for it’s just used. You know some of the sites that I’ve worked on we’re gonna use PC 911 which is computer and cell phone repair.

So how well does that site answer you know those questions? Somebody’s looking for a computer repair when they go there are they seeing you know just a couple of pictures of computers and a couple of little lines that say we do computer repair. Or are they seeing more in depth? Are they seeing videos about computer repair, tips about computer repair, maybe a tutorial about computer repair? What about a break down of all the services offered? Are there prices all those kind of things?

Search Engines are incredibly smart

You know Google who reads all that is incredible. They read all that and then they make a determination that if somebody is looking for computer repair you know this particular site has more value to the customer to answer that you know whatever question they have. Same thing with iPhone repair – and we’re ranking you know page one on both of those locally (which is a whole another scenario).

iPhone repair – what do you have a spinning iPhone with saying you know we fix iPhones or do you have all the models of the iPhones with all the pricing again, videos etc so content they say content is king. I don’t want to say that but I just did write content is huge for your site.

The fourth one is gonna be links. Links is probably you know at the top of the list of all I wanted to say. You know king it might kind of be up there king and queen. I guess maybe links, links to content, and links depending on your industry. You know sometimes it’s rather simple to get and sometimes more difficult to get. What links you know mean to Google is if you have an article about computer repair and people have read it and they’re sharing it and they’re linking to you and you become a resource for that information or that tutorial or that how to, then Google looks at that. Basically the simple ways you know it’s looked at like you know votes of confidence.

Links are just as important

You know thumbs up again you know what’s important here is how many links and the value of those links. Back in the day, people would have what they would call link farms and they would you know have a hundred different websites and basically interlink between them. There’s a lot of crazy things like that that don’t work anymore. Buying links on you know Fiverr and Craigslist etc. None of that really works, in fact, you’re more likely to be penalized for using such tactics. I mean Google has gotten you know very very smart at analyzing all those things.

The best recommendation is to just have the best information on your product or site. So when people say well you know what’s the secret sauce? How can I trick Google into you know ranking me? The easy answer doesn’t. Don’t trick anybody. If you have the web then the best solution and the best information for the query you’re gonna start ranking.

In summary…

So that’s really where the perspective and mindset needs to be. As far as if you say I want to rank you need to have content. Whether you provide the content you pay for o(you know the content has to come from somewhere) the links that are you’re gonna have somebody just working specifically on that and there’s you know depending on the industry you’re in for example if you sell particularly I don’t know let’s use air conditioners or something usually you might be able to get links from the parts of suppliers or if you sell it’s a nutritional product you know you would hit up all your vendors and manufactures. All those kind of things and see if they can give you links to your site.

So that’s your fantastic four for SEO. We’ll be providing a little more detail on each and some tips in further videos.
